Looking at news platforms with short analysis's:
Each news webpage is very different and I believe that I would like to use stuff.co.nz as a base and re-arrange their interface currently. I like their look but believe with their broad colour scheme there is improvements and changes which you could create for consumers to make the most of the page.
The stuff layout is very same same and almost boring, although very legible.
New Zealand herald takes on more of a traditional news paper feeling - I like this style it is clean cut with less pointless images.
One News Now is very video orientated, it would be much better for someone such as Hemi Kamana as he could listen to a lot of the news as he does stuff with every article in video format.
NZ radio is a really simple website which I like the clean feeling to it. You can select where you want to be directed without throwing all of the information at you like other webpages do before you know where you can actually click.
One thing I am noticing with the News Hub website is much of these pages do not include drop down menu's.
I am starting to believe that a page with a simplistic grid where you select what news you want to read and go through those steps then are in the section you want to be may be a good idea for a news page.
Google news is far too confusing and by far the more hideous news site I have looked into so far!! I like the idea of personalising what you are interested in but really on that page you don't want to stay and are wanting to leave pretty quickly.
Yahoo news have a clean clear grid and style. It is a website you can sit and read without too much distractions. But still doesn't have too clearer navigations, when I build my site I want it to be different and out of the 'box'.
